Where the TV go?
Apr. 13th, 2004 02:35 pmSeems I have been working like such a dog, I don't have much time for LJ. I even missed a wino pile, shit I love wino piling.
Easter Sunday we had a brunch with the inlaws at a sports bars, it was quite good to my surprise. We returned to the inlaws house for coffee and family time. While we were sitting in the living room chating it up, the big sceen TV was playing Rocky V. Rocky went on for some 15 minutes and nobody was paying it any attention. But it was getting on my nerves, just a bad film from the 15 minutes I got a look at.
The remote control was right next to me, so I shut the TV off. (one of my favorite buttons on the TV)
A few seconds later all conversation ceased. Everyone looked at the TV with a blank look of dismay. A little later someone asked what was wrong with the TV, was it broken? I then let them in on the mystery, that I had intentionally turned it off. This took a little time to sink in, as life without TV, even TV in the background was somewhat confusing.
After it sunk in that I had turned it off by my own will, everyone made the "Ohhhh" sound of understanding. Coversation then resumed.
It is just absolutly amazing the effect TV has on the human mind. Try it at your next gathering where the TV is in the background. Funny as hell and interesting to boot.
