I guess I'd not be all that upset about this whole bailout thing if it were not for the recent revisions to bankruptcy laws. Not long ago, I don't recall what year, there was a bill passed into law to make it harder to file for bankruptcy. The idea was not only to make it more difficult, but require the person filing to still be on the hook to repay some of the debt.

The idea was that people needed to be more responsible with their finances.

Apparently the rule of "not who you know, it's who you blow" still applies. It's good to see that the rule is still functioning perfectly.

Maybe video of actual disaster will help take your mind off of our impending global great depression. At least this disaster is quick and clean, assuming you're lucky enough to be in the fireball.

Also, I took the bus downtown and submitted my application for a permit to carry a handgun today at the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. I was rather excited to take the class a few weeks back, submitting the application felt a bit more grim. I mean, permission to legally carry a loaded deadly weapon is a grim thing, not something I think people should be all that happy about.

I followed up by wandering the downtown, and was not pleased by it's current condition. It's all cleaned up, no small independent businesses, no record stores, no comic book shops. I put my sorrows into Brit's Pub with a pint of New Castle Brown Ale. Wandered over to the military surplus store, down to Sex World and then crossed into NE Minneapolis for a couple of pints at Mayslack's.

Newcastle Brown became became incredibly popular here in the early 90s, although the jury was out as to whether people genuinely liked it, or whether it was because the heavy bottle was better for smashing people over the heads with.

You know how a lot of beer ads are all about "Hey, we took the freshest, purest, most alcohol-ready mountain streams to craft our fine beer with"?

Newcastle sort of tastes like the brewers went, "Fuck it, there's a creek back behind the building, and it's not too gross."

I still drink it, I even kind of like it, but it feels like it started with... a taint. One can only hope that eventually we develop super powers from ingesting enough of it.

Super powers? That'd rock, because if a place doesn't have Summit I typically go to Newcastle as a backup. Maybe the nasty water taste doesn't effect me after all that funky well water at my folks place, or that rancid-ass water that came from the faucet when I lived down in Eagan.

Armageddon will be purdy.

Newky will leave you with a hangover that you can only shift with dynamite. Actually, it's funny you mention Newky Brown bestowing super powers...
