mojocatt: (Are you Serious?)
I watched the local house of less than good standing be consumed by flames last night about 10:30pm. All the people made it out okay, that was cool, the house on the other hand looked better on fire. It was just two doors to the east of my house, so I got front row seating.

It was amazing to watch the fire fighters from start to finish. They pull up, they look at the burning house as if they are saying to each other "yup, shits on fire...yup.". They layout hoses, talk to a few tenants and start strapping on gear. All the while the fire is growing, shooting out two windows and making good progress into the attic. I start wondering about when they are fitting to put some water on that thing. They continue to set up, placing ladders up to upstairs windows, opposite the side on fire. Fire fighters begin to enter the house, still the fire is growing. More time passes and the fire is now into the attic, fine by me, the more damage to the local eyesore the better. Then I notice the fire in the room downstairs seems less intense, next thing a 50 foot jet of water blows the burning window trim into burning embers and damn near sprays the house across the street. next the second floor came under control, the attic continued to burn for some time.

All this time the thunder storm rolled in, more lightening than I've seen in years, it was completely surreal. The rain started very light, as the downstairs tennant stood in front of my house sucking on a 40 of Colt 45 watching the fire, carrying on about how she won't be paying rent this month. The upstairs tennant was sitting on the curb in front of my house, she was sobbing a river and mumbling about something. Everything bathed in flashing emergency lights and the glow of flames as mother nature put on a light show of her own.

At least she managed to save the Colt 45, thats whats important.

The wind picked up, 40mph gusts started to batter the area, then the rain hit and it rained buckets. Even with a major downpour the attic continued to burn for sometime.

Everything was under control by midnight but it continued to smolder for some time, filling the neighborhood with smoke. Time to go to bed.

It just occured to me I need a soft mat under my desk. That way if I want to curl up into a ball and gibber, I can do so in comfort.
