So, I spent some more time with grandma this weekend. We shared a beer (MGD, yuch). We got each other all whipped up about the presidential race. Her sole reason for liking John Kerry is that he resembles Abraham Lincoln to her, and his opposition to the war (I choose not to pursue that one). She is quite weak, but can walk here and there, and still has the gift of gab as she calls it. She thinks I am a bit nuts to be part of the Nader campaign, but she likes him too, but he does not bear any resemblance to Abraham Lincoln.

We talked a bit about the distance between my father and I. That her husband, my grandfather played more of a father role in my life than my father. This is true, he taught me damn near everything. Although my father is a very loving person, his is a bit childish, selfish and downright lazy. My father never really played a very large role in my life past my sixth birthday. Grandpa taught me how to use a axe, a chainsaw, spilt wood, river fishing, lake fishing, ice fishing, deer hunting, woodworking, archery, gun shooting, chicken raising, gardening, trapping, tractor driving, driving, auto repair, the circle of nature, frog catching, lawn mowing, meat smoking, sausage making, bird watching, an appreciation of nature. And a million other things.

I told her that they both were the most significant influences in my life. This pleased her greatly.

But at least she is home now. Quite a bit more peaceful than Station 10 ICU at Abbot Hospital in the city.

So between the shingles and grandma's heart troubles I have missed a photo workshop, a wedding, sending [livejournal.com profile] lino and [livejournal.com profile] izzles birthday gifts, a birthday party, a day of work, ,a Don Cabelerro gig!***sob*** and have not gone fishing in three weeks. All and all, I am a very scarce fellow these days.

I don't know, when I didn't see you at the reception, I had visions of you and boffy driving grandma around to different safe-houses on a two-hour rotating schedule just to keep her away from the family members who want to talk her into getting the operation she doesn't want.

Well, I thought it was funny :)

My Dad taught me how to use Excel.

I guess that's the accountant's version of taking your boy hunting and fishing.
