Aug. 30th, 2010 11:49 amWhen you actually know a infantryman in Afghanistan, you find yourself paying much more attention to those death toll news reports. You also find yourself checking facebook just to see if that person has updated.
It's a little different than the people I knew with the Minnesota National Guard in Iraq. First I felt they were better protected, second I only vaguely knew them. This guy I've spent some time with and the members of the Afghan insurgency are much more deadly than the random assholes that were flung at our troops in Iraq.
Gonna be a long year in that respect.
