Get the clowns elected and move on for better or worse. In all reality the congress has more power than the executive branch, but we look to the executive branch to set the tone. So many of us do look to a President Obama with "hope", as in "I sure hope this works better". Mostly I'm very hopeful to defuse the atmosphere of fear the current executive branch has used to further it's policy over reason. I'm hopeful that a black president will give the black community something other than professional sports, the rap industry and street gangs as role models, all have failed to deliver a message that helps in any way (may sound racist, but I see it every day, sorry). I hope to be able to have open dialogue with our enemies, not to appease them for acting like lunatics, but at least leave the door to the office open for discussion. I hope to see real progress on energy policy, although I'll admit that in my opinion anything less than "Manhattan Project" level is too little, I hope to see progress. I hope to see the top 1% of income earners pay their fair share and not slip through tax loopholes. I'm hopeful to see more tax money going back into our communities, schools and infrastructure. I'm hopeful the hate can be defused or reduced, race hate, sexual orientation hate, religion hate and even political orientation hate. This whole red versus blue thing has gone way to far, with the left questioning the mental ability of the right, and the right questioning the patriotism of the left.
First, there are idiots on both sides, playing in all roles. Second there are idiots ranting in journals, such as this one. Third, they are all patriotic in the sense they wish to improve our country, there are just different ideas of how to go about it and what the end result will be. People need to be tolerant of each other, and consider each view with some care.
Although people like Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann who are both ignorant and hateful need to go out with the trash. I'm a little disappointed in the ability of the Minnesota 6th district to see clearly on this. The ignorant congresswoman advocates McCarthyism (and to also be a good Christian...wtf), and probably even more frightening is she probably has no clue as to what it is (well, she probably does now). I've been somewhat tolerant of what other congressional districts do with their vote, but the 6th is acting irresponsibly by giving this brainless republican drone a single vote.
But mostly it's this fear that the White House has covered our nation with. The fear is complete bullshit, we should stand with the rule of law, our constitution, habeas corpus and the geneva conventions without fear, even if it may bring us harm. Bravery is not lashing out in fear or becoming paranoid, bravery is standing for what is right with clear intent, especially when in danger.
