Oct. 30th, 2008 08:15 pmAh yes, something to look forward to, the Constellation Program at NASA. I'm totally fascinated with what NASA is offering up in the next twelve years. New rockets, moon missions, a moon base, and maybe even humans on Mars.

After eight years of king dumbass II and the fear squad, eight years cheeseburger Bill and the blue dress, it is refreshing to look to something really cool in the future. Something we can be proud of, something I can show Rowan that we don't always suck, our country can do some really cool things too. I was never all that excited about the shuttle, we send a glider up on a rocket to orbit the earth. Round and round it goes, with video of floating people.
Yawn.
The space station is moderately interesting, although a little dinky for my tastes. By 2008 the space station should be of moderate size, with something like 30-50 on board. The one we have now is kind of pathetic, a bunch of dinky modules bolted together.
Yawn.
It really is time to do something that is worthy of history for our generation, we really don't have jack squat in achievements to point at. We have a huge stack of bills and failures, but nothing with any real meat, nothing that makes you drop your jaw, "holy fuck, wow, that’s amazing, that's crazy" type of thing. I remember as a 5 year old I was totally hooked on the NASA stuff, the Apollo mission were just ending and there were going to be space stations, moon bases, terraforming Venus, asteroid colonies.
All we ended up with was Ronald Reagan, some orbiters going round and round (and sometimes failing) and big bag of suck.
Now this, this is cool again. Complete with video game sound track.
