Oct. 9th, 2008 11:09 pmOf all things, I'm going deer hunting this weekend. Mind you I've not hunted deer since 1987. But that was for the most part because I could not stand certain members of my family. These members of my family have for the most part weeded themselves out once there was noting left to steel and when it became apparent they were not getting any additional cash from land sales.
Plus I don't like venison, hate the flavor, very dry meat. But I do love the venison sauage, with seasoning to mask the game flavor in the meat, and some fatty pork to make it a little less dry. Certain stews and roasts can be good as well if properly seasoned, prepared and prepared so that it is moist and tender.
But the members of my family that go up for the annual hunting these days are good people, I have very few problems with them. That's mostly what it is about, hanging out with family and old friends up North, tipping a few beers and bringing in a few deer. If I don't get a deer it's no real worry, it mostly about the experience. Plus Rowan likes to hang out with the family during deer season as well, for the same reasons. I'd like to make sure Rowan get a chance to experience the deer season the way I did as a kid.
