By now you've heard the Obama race speech. It was done well, no doubts. But what hit me hardest about it was how I was practically drooling listening to someone who could actually speak in an effective manner. A small snippet as an example.....
That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems; it keeps us from squarely facing our own complicity in our condition, and prevents the African-American community from forging the alliances it needs to bring about real change.
But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races.
Now a fictional example of what we hear from dubya day in and day out.
Now, I know some black people, and black people, black people, are um, different than white people. Black people got darker skin, they like rap music. Black people can be angry at the white people because, the black, because, there's an old saying that says you can paint a fence post....the pot called the kettle black and then the kettle said that they was both black. There was slavery, I know that, it was over there, people think I don't know about that, well you're wrong. If I were a black people, I'd be mad, mad at Al Qu-eda types, ya-all see? The terrorists are stirrin' up our black folks. See? We closed the barn door after the cows already got out. Were gonna take the fight to the enemy.
