acts of derring-do
This one is an interest, but not really in practice anymore. I have always have been a show off around the girls, sometimes resulting in massive stupidity. But these acts have become more and more tame and increasingly rare. With LeAnn in her condition and Rowan as a dependent, I can't take risks anymore. I can't go early ice fishing, or climb the cliffs in the park anymore. I even avoid speeding when driving when I'm aware of it. Any of those risky, stupid things I did as a teen or young adult are now just too big of a risk.
airsoft
Good fun, better than paintball. Some of the players are a bit more serious than your average paintball player. Some play soldier a little too well. But that's part of the fun. Full auto weapons make a real difference in my book, and the vast verity of gear is neat as well.
anime
The Japanese have shown extraordinary creativity in visuals, music, characters and story. Just mind blowing stuff when compared to the crap Hollywood USA is dishing out year after year. Rambo 4, Die Hard 4, Rocky 6 *ahem ahem....*
walleye
The very tasty and elusive state fish of Minnesota. I prefer the walleye caught in winter; alas they are even more difficult to locate in the winter, and even pickier about what they eat. But there is a remarkable different in the flavor of the winter walleye compared to the walleye caught in the peak of summer.
garrison keillor
There is more here than the name. Most people think because you like his work, you somehow like him on a personal level. Fact of the matter is I don't know the guy, but I do enjoy his show and other works. They speak of a fictional Minnesota that is rooted in some fact about the place and the people. Spending time in small town Minnesota, such as Cambridge / Isanti during my summers as a youth and you get it. The little dramas that play out in these little places, the odd neighbors, the Lutheran churches, the scandals that seem a little tame. But what really makes it good is the bullshit, Minnesota bullshit. Minnesota bullshit is where a rather dull item can be inflated to epic proportions. A great deal seems to come from the Scandinavian settlers, whose pull your leg (and run off with it) sense of humor still resides in our state. Then the more serious Germans and Polish population who don't see any of it as the list bit funny.
