Well, at work on a Saturday morning....bleh. I was in fact needed though, but my task is now complete and I am racking up free money at 1.5 wage. I'm just listening to the radio chatter from the production line, waiting for something that would require my attention.
Something weird occurred at the house next door last night. The next door neighbor seemed a bit rattled and was gibbering at a trellis that led to a second story porch and door. I suspect there was some sort of break in attempt. What ever it was, I slept right though it, and there appears to be nothing out of place on either side of the fence. The next door neighbor seems to be quite friendly with the lady who was an arson victim a few months back, and I see her visit regularly. This concerns me a bit, as there is some indications and rumor of gang ties with her son. But, thats just what it is, rumor and indications, strange traffic patterns and such. Just because her friend's son might have gang connections is no reason to believe there might be trouble, but then again, on the Minneapolis North side, you want to keep certain people at a distance, basic street smarts. I'd like to offer my assistance as a good neighbor and tell her to call me if she has trouble, but it looks to be something I want to keep my distance from. The lower the profile, the less they know, the more anonymous, the better, never tip your hand, sad but true. All they really know about me is that I am a little crabby and a little nutty, and thats exactly the way I like it, unless they prove to be trustworthy, and that they have not done.
And thats just it about "gangs" on the North side. They don't pose any immediate threat to the average resident minding ones own business. The media likes to keep the people in the suburbs good and terrified though, gang news is good for the ratings and makes the white folks in the burbs feel better that they moved. But overall, you don't see much. There is the annual stray bullet story that can spend months on the news, but for the most part they target each other. You still need to be aware of them though, and keep ones eye open for the strange and unusual, but being relaxed about it does not mean being ignorant of it.
