Feb. 24th, 2004 01:20 pmI walk into the lab this morning, put the key into the door of my office and a hand comes down on my shoulder.
Yes folks, the religous right has come to visit. Now not only am I nusring some sort of spider / bug bite, a whole load of shit on my plate and just waking up. I've got an ultra conservative Christan to deal with. He showed me his Florida vacation pictures, looks like he had a good time. I asked him why he was in Florida as opposed to San Francisco, much more action there for his type. Imagine releasing an inflated ballon without putting a knot in the end first. Oh, lets see, he bounced off the Supreme Court, The Mayor of San Francisco, the ACLU, the Democractic party and we ended up landing in his school district.
As he tells it, there is a councilor at his local high school who has an outreach program for gay teens. Now he says he is all for counseling gay teens through their troubles, but not to "flaunt" that type of program with tax payer dollars. My response was "So, you want to council** gay teens, but don't want to tell anybody you do? How are gay teens going to know there is help usless you advertise its presence?"
(**We all know what "counseling gays" means in right wing speak....Oh, spanking with a bible gets me all horny! Show me those cheeks so I can give you the word of god!)

So, he says, you are going to teach you little girl all about gay sex? What if she turns out to be gay? I responded that I will teach her all that she needs to know as the situation warrants and that I don't care if she is gay or not. That I will support any life style choice she makes, gay, bi or hetro.
At this point his face went red with anger....I guess I have that effect on people.
All in all, we had a good rant at each other. Better than any of the people in office or running for office. We need to have our own show on TV.
