Well it got shot down. Took them three days to do it, three days I consider wasted time. NPR listed all the other bills waiting for attention, and all of them are more important than writing discrimination into the federal constitution.

It failed 48-50....48 senators lined up to support the one and only amendment that would prohibit a group of people, as opposed to giving a new freedom. Forty eight, they needed 2/3 to do it, but 48 is still waaaaaay too many. 48 senators favor putting a pen to the constitution and adding homophobia as a law. Gives you a real clear picture of how far to the right our government is leaning, and it is scary.

Ok, so I am being all anal about this...

This was NOT a vote for the amendment. It was a procedural vote that would, if passed, allowed the senate to vote on the amendment.

Basically, the republicans couldn't get the bill out of committee so they proposed a vote that would have forced it to the senate floor. (They also need a 2/3rds majority to do that.)

That is the vote that failed. Academic I know. I just hate when things like that get glossed over. (I still can't stand when people say things like Monica-gate. Unless an old hotel in D.C. chnaged it's name then THERE IS NO FUCKING SUCH THING AS A MONICA-GATE!!!)

Yes, it was killed by a technicality, but a kill is a kill, and we all know where it was going.

My point is that 48 senators were in favor of the amendment. Half of the senate!

I'm not specifying where it got killed, just that it got killed and that 48 senators is too many to even be considering bringing this load of wacko right wing crap to the senate floor let alone amend it to the constitution.

I think the more important point is that the people who forced this vote knew it wouldn't pass. Knew weeks ago. They waisted important time and money just so they could use this as an issue in the upcoming election.

Anger I have... yes.

Three entire days were wasted on a load of crap that was doomed to never even reach the senate floor.

Something this crazy should have died outright in committee.

All you politicians are on notice!!

I guess I am going to agree slightly more with caveman on this one. The truly maddening thing about this is that Government, both at the city, state and country level are all playing bullshit games instead of doing their fucking jobs. Assclowns all!! I am going to step up and say that there is not an elected official in this country that is earning their paycheck. I ti sime to clean house in a big fucking way. I am not going to vote for an incumbant in the upcoming election at all. NO INCUMBANTS SHALL GET MY VOTE!! Money wasting pansy motherfuckers!!

"NO INCUMBANTS SHALL GET MY VOTE!!"

Virtually no incumbent has ever gotten my vote. I hate career politicians more than athlete's foot and jock itch combined.

Yupper, three days down the shitter.

Well, we already know the Minnesota senator who voted in favor of bringing the amendment to the senate floor.
