Jan. 9th, 2008 12:26 amOf course when one has a big day to come the next morning, sleep never comes easy. So it never makes any sense to fight it, just get up, roll a smoke, crack a beer. The big thing is nothing more significant besides having a lot to do tomorrow.
Our little January thaw is coming to a close in Minnesota, enjoying a few days above that freezing point. I can get back to taking Rowan over to the pond for ice skating in a day or so as the ice hardens again. She does very well, picking where we left off a half year ago at a indoor rink. I think we may be ready for hockey sticks this Thursday. It never ceases to amaze me to see her grow and learn. It's like watching a house being built and furnished at the same time.
This reminds me that a few weeks back one of our local TV station weathermen got a nasty-gram from a viewer. It appeared to her he was being a little too chipper about our abundance of snow and cold. That for many the cold and snow are a hardship (yeah tell me about it lady), and he should not be so happy about it. This is true, it can prove a hardship for many who are elderly or disabled. But quite frankly if you are going to take it out on the weatherman you should consider using that energy to find a new location to live. it is what it is, might as well smile about it.
I'll need to set aside some time soon to pull the dip tube on the hot water heater, as I think it might be cracked or broken. A bit of background on water heaters, the dip tube is the cold water inlet. The dip tube is a pipe that runs through the top of the heater to the very bottom. Thus the hot water exits the top as the cold fills the bottom and remains separated. But I get extremely hot water to start and it slowly chills to warm, to luke warm. I suspect the dip tube is cracked or broken, allowing the hot and cold to mix. After I remove the dip tube, the reason it is called a dip tube may have more to do with owner of said tube than the fact the tube is very long. As I've never played with a water heater before, I should manage to f something up. I hope it is just a simple copper tube, as I've never seen one. Plus you can't be certain it is the dip tube until you rip the whole works apart. There must be a market for transparent water heaters, so one can see what's going on in there before you start unscrewing things.
LeAnn makes little improvements here and there, although they are quite large to me and her. She cleaned a shelf in the bathroom today and has been doing the bills. Bill doing may not seem like a desirable thing, but it requires writing checks. The fact she can write a check is a big step. Cleaning the shelf has let her manipulate the world around her and contribute to the household.
I'm gonna need vacation time here soon. But I find myself a little wary of using it, last year I though two weeks would be more than enough to cover Leann's surgery.
The iTunes library is almost halfway recovered, almost to the 4,000 track mark. I think I was at 8,000+ before the crash.
That reminds me, I better back that folder up. Gotta love firewire, 18GB in a estimated 22 minutes.
Come hell or high water I'm going to get some airsoft in on the 19th, it been to long, my arsenal stuffed in
notbatman's attic. It's time to go to bed again me thinks, maybe I'll snuggle up to my M-16. Cuz baby, it's been too long since we had any quality time together.
