Live action Cowboy Bebop is scheduled for release in 2011.

With..., um.... Keanu Reeves as Spike.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy_Bebop
On July 22, 2008, IF Magazine published an article on its website regarding a rumor of a live-action Cowboy Bebop movie in development by 20th Century Fox. Producer Erwin Stoff said that the film's development was in the early stages, and that they had "just signed it".[20][21] Keanu Reeves has been confirmed as playing the role of Spike Spiegel.[22][23] Variety confirmed on January 15, 2009, that the production company Sunrise Animation will be "closely involved with the development of the English language project." The site also confirmed Kenji Uchida, Shinichiro Watanabe, and series writer Keiko Nobumoto as associate producers, series producer Masahiko Minami as a production consultant, and Peter Craig as screenwriter.[24] It is currently slated for release in 2011.

The information is scattered all over the internets, over a four year period. There is no one official source of information, the Wikipedia snip seems the most reasonable take on the situation.

The bad news, as you can see above is who they have picked for the role of Spike Spiegel. Although from what I've gathered he is fan of Cowboy Bebop, has the total blessing of Shinichiro Watanabe to play Spike, and has been the greatest advocate of the project. The problem with Keanu Reeves is that he is only good at one thing, being Keanu Reeves.

Nothing against Keanu Reeves, I'm sure he will be a spot on visual match to Spike, but he won't be Spike. The crew of the Bebop will thus be Faye, Ed, Jet, Ein and Keanu Reeves in a green wig.

It's a depressing thought.

The good news is Shinichiro Watanabe has 100% control of the script and from what I've gathered he has already rejected one script. Just why he has a total hard on for Keanu Reeves is a mystery. Maybe thats the reason right there, they are gay for each other. It would not be the first staring role awarded for a excellent blow job.

Party on Ted.

The next question is why? Why rip Cowboy Bebop from it's medium? What exactly is there to be gained by playing these characters with filmed living humans? As far as I can see nothing besides ego, money and having a job. Is Hollywood not satisfied with all the comic books they fucked up? They were lucky if one out of twenty-five comic book adaptions broke two stars.

But this is just getting rolling. There is a mad scramble in Hollywood to nab a piece of the live action anime pie. Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Robotech / Macross, Ninja Scroll.

After much pushing there are starting to be some break throughs in some areas. I'm not exactly sure if it is my general outlook on life or actual accoplishments. Because my basic out look on life is driven mostly by LeAnn's condition, and her condition is improving.

I still say she says "I can't" too often.

It could be the only thing that has changed is a more positive outlook.

Anyways, I'm playing airsoft this weekend, first time in close to a year. Funerals, must attend events and emergencies have kept me out of the game. That right there says something, the bullshit has become shallow enough to park the boat and wade through..

Six months? Six fucking months?

How about ten years with daily ass whoopings with an extension cord and oven stuffings.
